I’m originally from the Maldives and I moved to the UK in 2017. I have a Masters degree in Postcolonial Studies - my dissertation was on representations of the Sri Lankan Civil War in literature and film.

I joined Wildfire in 2022 as an Editorial Assistant, where I was assisting the entire team on ed-to-prod on their titles, as well as general admin. I also assisted on select titles on our publishing director’s list, including books by authors such as Jennifer Saint, Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones, Matt Coyne and Nemonte Nenquimo.

I published DallerGut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee, Headline’s first foray into ESEA translated fiction, which was Foyles Book of the Month (Nov 2023) and Waterstones Book of the Month (Aug 2024). Korean translated fiction is now a big part of my list at Wildfire with the following titles due to be published in 2026 and 2027:
- The Legend of Lady Byeoksa by Esther Park (tr. Gene Png)
- Teddy Bears Never Die by Cho Yeeun (tr. Sung Ryu)
- Orange and the Bread Knife by Cheongye (tr. Slin Jung)
- My Perfect Deserted Island by Hae-Soo Park (tr. Slim Jung)
- The Age of the Filiarch by Ysra (tr. Jinwoo Hwon Lee)
- The Bookshop of Illusions by So Seo-rim (tr. Gene Png)

In my current role as Senior Commissioning Editor, I acquire a broad spectrum of fiction ranging from literary to commercial. I also work with a special focus on trend-led IP development, where we creatively brainstorm ideas for projects in-house and pair with suitable authors.

The through line across all my commissioning tends to be that I’m drawn to well-crafted, voice-driven writing paired with an unforgettable hook. Give me unconventional settings, incredible storytelling and beautiful prose. I don’t shy away from books that are unabashedly bold, irreverently funny and unapologetically weird. I have a penchant for the macabre and sinister, books with a bit of personality.
