I’m originally from the Maldives and I moved to the UK in 2017. I have a Masters degree in Postcolonial Studies - my dissertation was on representations of the Sri Lankan Civil War in literature and film.
I started my career in publishing at Wildfire, an imprint of Headline Publishing Group, in 2022 as an Editorial Assistant. I began building my own list as well as assisting the entire team on their titles and general admin. In 2023, I published DallerGut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee, Headline’s first foray into ESEA translated fiction, which was Foyles Book of the Month (Nov 2023) and Waterstones Book of the Month (Aug 2024). Following this, Korean translated fiction became a big part of my list at Wildfire.
I have since acquired and published bestselling titles from East Asia such Gu
Byeong-Mo’s The Wizard’s Bakery, Cho Yeeun’s Teddy Bears Never Die, Dongwon Seo’s The Moon Glow Bookshop, Cheong Ye’s Orange and the Bread Knife and Giddens Ko’s Cafe. Waiting. Love. I have also worked on brand campaigns for authors such as M. L. Rio, Christy Anne Jones, Chloe C. Peñaranda and June Hur.
The throughline across all my commissioning tends to be that I’m drawn to well-crafted, voice-driven writing paired with an unforgettable hook. Give me unconventional settings, incredible storytelling and beautiful prose. I don’t shy away from books that are unabashedly bold, irreverently funny and unapologetically weird. I have a penchant for the macabre and sinister, books with a bit of personality.
I will be joining Jacaranda Books in August 2026 as Senior Commissioning Editor, where I will be expanding their fiction list and acquiring across a broad spectrum of fiction ranging from literary to commercial.
